Since March 2006 it is a legal requirement of all Door Supervisors to be registered with the Security Industry Authority (S.I.A). For many years previously we had believed there should be some controlling authority to introduce a uniformity of standard throughout the industry. We always try particularly hard to recruit the 'right person for the job', which fortunately has paid dividends in the long term.
It is illegal to work as a Door Supervisor in England or Wales if you do not hold an SIA licence. It is also an offence to employ a Door Supervisor who does not hold an SIA licence.
All our staff have the SIA qualification and have been CRB checked. The SIA registration gives our staff a good grounding and covers all the functions that are necessary to perform a satisfactory security service. However, there is no substitute for experience so, whenever possible, we recruit people with long experience to act as 'mentors' for those with less experience. We have found this allows us to develop a strong team spirit with a high degree of trust in one another.
We reference check every individual on their employment history to a maximum of ten years. This includes the employer's assessment of the person's abilities and performance as well as their length of service, and through our many contacts in the industry, we can very often find out the personal background of an applicant. We consider procedure to be of paramount importance in our process of recruiting the people with the right qualities for the job.
With the heightened threat level in the UK in terms of terrorism, Silurian can boast being the only security firm to have attended the most recent of seminars and training sessions promoted by H.M Government, in association with ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) facilitated by NaCTSO (National Counter Terrorism Security Office), with regards to operation 'Raise the bar' on security, and by passing on the information to all it's staff, Silurian Security keeps it's position, head and shoulders above it's competition.
